What Is hay fever?

Hay fever is seasonal allergic rhinitis, specifically it is an allergic reaction to pollen.

Hay fever occurs when pollen comes into contact with your mouth, nose, eyes or throat, causing cold-like symptoms.  These symptoms of allergic rhinitis can include, but are not limited to, sneezing, itchiness and a blocked or runny nose.

What are the causes of hay fever?

Hay fever is the result of an allergic reaction to pollen. Pollen is a fine powder that comes from plants. Different types of pollen are released throughout the course of the year, affecting sufferers in various ways.

When these tiny particles come into make contact with the cells that line your mouth, nose, eyes and throat, they irritate them and trigger an allergic reaction.

Hay fever treatment works by temporarily suppressing the body’s immune response, for long enough to relieve symptoms. The steroid will slowly leak into the bloodstream over the course of three weeks, the effects of which can last up to 6 months.

What Is The Procedure Of The Hay Fever Treatment?

Consultation

At Allergy Relief Clinic, all patients will undergo a complementary face-to-face consultation with one of our clinicians, prior to the hayfever treatment.

Is this treatment right for you?

During this consultation, the recommended dosage will be prescribed, taking all factors into consideration, i.e., severity of patient’s symptoms, weight, etc.

Treatment Begins

Once agreed upon, the steroid is injected into the very top of the gluteal muscle – depositing a dose directly into the muscular tissue. The treatment is quick and ultimately painless.

When is it most effective to commence hay fever treatment?

The hay fever treatment is most effective and works best when treatment is started ahead of hay fever season, in order to allow time for the cells to suppress the chemicals that trigger inflammation.

Pollen season begins in the month of March and continues long into September; however, this is not to say the treatment would be less effective whilst allergy season has already commenced. We recommend seeking treatment as soon as you begin to experience symptoms, as different pollen types continue to peak throughout the season.

Different spores and pollen types are released throughout the year, so there are constant peaks throughout the season.
